The Issaquah Alps on a typical Northwest day

The Issaquah alps on a very... "Pacific Northwest" day.

The First Note

For those jumping into music for the first time, balance is key. We believe that a music educator should be flexible enough to understand the student's needs and goals, but also be able to maintain a disciplined and thorough curriculum. This combination of flexibility and rigor is the foundation for musical success.

Teach In Harmony

The student-teacher relationship plays a key role in the music learning process. Being able to move a student effectively from point A to point B requires a collaborative effort and mututal interest in the student's goals: learning a song, performing on stage, writing one's own music, or what have you. It is only through a sincere investment on the teacher's part that a student will achieve, rather than lose the interest and discipline essential to advancement.

The Future Sounds Good

Music should be something that is enjoyed for a lifetime. With proper guidance and the understanding that everyone learns in their own way and at their own pace, any musical goal is achievable. Of course, a good educator is essential and here's where the good news comes in: At Eastside Guitar Star & Uke, music teaching is not a hobby or a side job as it often is for part-timers in other schools; rather, it is considered a career and a responsibility to be taken seriously.

Founder's Notes

More Than Just Music Lessons

I founded Eastside Guitar Star & Ukulele with a singular goal: to go beyond basic instruction and create a space that actively fosters curiosity, creativity, and real achievement. I want every student to leave the studio energized and motivated to take their musicality to the next level. To ensure our lessons fit your life, we pair traditional in-person classes with interactive virtual learning platforms, making high-quality music education flexible and accessible.

Learn from a Career Professional

Music is my life's work. I am not just an educator; I am a career musician. Beyond teaching hundreds of students of every age and skill level, I bring real-world industry experience directly into the lesson room. I have performed on the prestigious Benaroya Hall mainstage, recorded at top-tier facilities like Paul Allen's Midnight Lamp, and played alongside Rock and Roll Hall of Fame artists.

I built Eastside Guitar Star & Ukulele to reflect those experiences—creating a space where everything I’ve gained on stage and in the studio is shared directly with you.

At the heart of my music teaching philosophy lies a profound commitment to motivating students to succeed. I believe that fostering a passion for music is paramount, as it serves as a powerful driving force in their musical journey. As an educator, my goal is to create a supportive and encouraging environment where students feel inspired to explore their creativity, embrace challenges, and embrace a growth mindset.

By understanding each student's unique interests, learning style, and aspirations, I strive to tailor my teaching approach, incorporating a diverse range of musical genres and pieces that resonate with their individual preferences. I emphasize the significance of setting achievable goals, celebrating milestones, and nurturing self-confidence, empowering students to overcome obstacles and reach new heights.

Moreover, I encourage open communication and a sense of camaraderie within the music studio, fostering a community of musicians who inspire and support one another. Through this approach, I aim to instill not only musical proficiency, but also a lifelong love for music, ensuring that my students embark on a fulfilling and rewarding musical journey.
